2016 Jul 18 | Cubic³ have been working with Keltbray Rail to develop a new rail trailer mounted mixer

c3.2.5 (2) c3.2.5

Cubic³ Design and Engineering Ltd have been working with Keltbray Rail to develop a new rail trailer mounted 2.5m3 volumetric mixer. The mixer is twist lock mounted and can be loaded onto a rail trailer with ease at a rail siding. The idea behind the mixer is for it to be towed on track by a Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) to the job site, the RRV can then load the mixer in-situ from either materials left at the location or from an additional trailer carrying materials for the concrete mix. The compact mixer range has outputs of 25m3 per hour, its main use will be supplying concrete for piling for overhead-electrification works. Mixing onsite allows for less traffic movements, less waste, improved concrete quality, improved work-ability and increased operational efficiency

2015 Aug 21 | Cubic³ Design and Engineering Ltd conduct Feasibility Studies for London Underground

LUL
“London Underground worked with Cubic3 Design and Engineering Limited to develop a solution to enable a concrete mixer to be mounted on a rail wagon which will supply high strength concrete to enable track renewals to be undertaken during overnight engineering possessions. Cubic3 undertook a number of feasibility studies for LU, including a Feasibility study into the materials for the production of High Early Strength Concrete. This gave us confidence to move forward with the project and we found Cubic3 to be a very knowledgeable, helpful organisation, with a great deal of expertise in concrete materials and the concrete mixer market.”

2015 Jul 01 | Cubic³ and University of Liverpool Increase Life Span and improve reliability of Continuous Mixing (Volumetric) Concrete Mixers

Working with the University of Liverpool’s Centre for Global Eco-Innovation (CGE) and Cubic3’s supply chain, Cubic3 Design and Engineering Limited has completed a 10 month project into the life span of a range of continuous concrete mixers. The mixers have been redesigned to achieve longer life span with less maintenance requirements.

Cubic3’s Technical Director, Anthony Jones, explains: “Having worked in the sector for over 30 years, we know how important it is to get the job done.  Being able to repair on site – without workshop facilities – is of great importance to us and our customers, who often are in overseas and remote locations such as the Algerian desert.”

The project was carried out with the assistance of the University, a graduate Engineer, and Cubic3’s suppliers & customers. Modern eco-design strategies were used to find the best opportunities for improvement.

The hydraulic, pneumatic, computer and electrical systems, as well as the fabricated structure, have been redesigned to achieve:

  • Simplified systems with fewer components
  • Use of components with a high Mean Time Before Failure and low maintenance requirements
  • Simple fault diagnosis
  • ‘Plan B’ fail-safes, to compete the job without immediate workshop assistance
  • Lower environmental impact as a result of simpler systems and longer lifespan

Other features and thus customer benefits have also been added to the Cubic3 range of mixers.

“The operation of the mixer depends on hydraulic technology. Oil cleanliness has a big impact on the life of a system, so we combined advanced filtration technology with robust hydraulic components, resulting in mixers that can deliver results day after day in harsh environments.”

“Our new range of Cubic3 continuous concrete mixers have been developed based on our own experience, and detailed feedback from machine owners and operators. This project gave us the opportunity to innovate and improve the design and manufacture even further.”
